The check-in procedure is when the passengers announce the airline their arrival at the airport. Without check-in, it is not possible to get on the board. We can make check-in:
– at the airport
– on-line on the airline website
– at the self-service kiosk
Check-in at the airport take place at the airport check-in counters and is performed by a person (airport or airline staff). For transatlantic flights, you should come 3 hours before departure, for international 2 hours before departure and for domestic 1 hour before departure. The airport check-in closes for transatlantic and international flights 1 hour before departure and for domestic flights 40 minutes before departure. Online check-in is quick and convenient. It can be done from anywhere: from the comfort of your home, office or drinking your coffee in a cafe. In other words,  the online check-in saves time and make the time at the airport pleasant.
Usually, it opens 24 hours before departure and closes 3 hours before the flight. You can reserve in advance your own seat, choose a menu or pay for your additional bag. After the online check-in is completed, you will be asked to print your boarding pass. Of course, in many cases, depending on the route and if you download the airline application on your phone or tablet, it is not necessary to print the boarding pass.
Having online check-in, you should not go to the airport 2-3 hours before departure and if you travel with a handbag you can go directly to passport control.

Self-service check-in kiosks take place at the airport. Throughout airport, you can see a row of free-standing computer screens that offer airport check-in to the passengers without the need of check-in manager. Usually, the airline has an employee that will help you to print out your baggage tags and drop-off your bag.
